University of Swat

The University of Swat, founded in July 2010, is a public university in the Charbagh region of Swat District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It was established to offer higher education to the inhabitants of Swat Valley and the surrounding region. The university’s main campus is about 20 kilometers from Mingora city.

History and Establishment

The University of Swat was announced by the Prime Minister of Pakistan during his visit to Swat Valley in May 2010. The university came into being officially in July 2010 with an order by the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after the approval of the President of Pakistan. Dr. Muhammad Farooq Khan became the first Vice Chancellor in August 2010. Initially, the university operated from two buildings in Saidu Sharif, Swat, provided by the Higher Education Department. Construction of the permanent campus is ongoing, with several departments already shifted to the main campus under Vice Chancellor Dr. Muhammad Jamal.

Recent Developments

In January 2025, a Chinese delegation visited the university to explore cultural and academic cooperation. Admission to the Spring 2025 semester was officially announced at the end of December 2024.
