A Glance at History
Aichi University’s history can be traced back to 1901 when Tōa Dōbunkai (Eastern Asia Cultural Association) founded Tōa Dōbunshoin in Shanghai—the earliest Japanese overseas higher education institution. Originally established under the visionary leadership of Atsumaro Konoe to foster cultural and educational exchange between Japan and China, it was reestablished in Japan in 1946 as Aichi University. Since then, the university has grown by combining traditional values of academic freedom with contemporary educational practices to cultivate global understanding.
