The IIE Scholar Rescue Fund (IIE-SRF) is a global program that provides support to doctoral researchers and public intellectuals who face targeted threats in their home countries. Launched in 2002 by the Institute of International Education (IIE), the fellowship has protected and empowered scholars worldwide.

This fully funded opportunity includes a host academic appointment, a generous grant, and health insurance coverage. Scholars continue their work in safe environments, especially in regions like Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

 Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the IIE-SRF Fellowship 2026, applicants must meet the following conditions:

  •  PhD or terminal degree in their field
  •  Proven academic record and potential
  •  Previous teaching or research at a recognized institution

  •  Personal Statement explaining threats and motivations
  •  Two academic references
  •  Two personal references (on letterhead preferred)
  •  PhD degree certificate (or equivalent)

  •  Letter of intent from a host university (optional)
