People’s University of Medical & Health Sciences for Women (PUMHSW)

The People’s University of Medical & Health Sciences for Women (PUMHSW) is a premier medical institution located in Shaheed Benazirabad (Nawabshah), Sindh, Pakistan. Established in April 1974 under the leadership of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, it began as the People’s Medical College exclusively for women. Today, it stands as a prestigious university dedicated to advancing medical education and research for women across Pakistan.

Historical Background

Establishment: Founded in 1974 as People’s Medical College to provide exclusive medical education opportunities for women in Sindh.
Initial Facilities: The college began its journey in temporary facilities, including a section of the District Council High School, with limited infrastructure.
University Status: Recognizing its growth and contribution to medical education, the Government of Sindh upgraded the college to university status on December 21, 2009. It began functioning officially as a university with the appointment of its first Vice-Chancellor on January 8, 2011.
