The University of Larkano was created by the consolidation of a number of institutes:

• The University of Sindh Larkana campus, now the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities
• The Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering, Science & Technology Larkana campus, now the Faculty of Engineering
• Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Agricultural College Dokri, presently the Faculty of Agriculture

In November 2024, the University of Larkano launched a partnership with the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in Sri Lanka.
