University of Peshawar (UoP)

History

  • Foundation (1950): Founded in 1950, the University of Peshawar was established after the independence of Pakistan to meet the increasing need for higher education.
  • Quaid-e-Azam’s Vision: Its establishment was brought about by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, who wanted it to be an institution of learning that would help build the nation.
  • Evolution:
    • Inherited assets from Islamia College (founded in 1913), converted into a constituent college of UoP.
    • Expanded over the years into its present form with many faculties, departments, and affiliated colleges.
